Lions of the Okavango Delta are Abnormally Big!

Lions of the Okavango Delta are absolute beasts. Their home is a vast area of wetlands and swamp, which means they have to work extra hard to stalk and hunt their prey - the mighty Cape Buffalo. This makes them physical specimens (on average 60kg heavier than most other African Lions) and some of our planets most feared apex predators. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ CREDITS Credit 1 - Madagascar, DreamWorks Animation: 🤍 Credit 2 - Real Wild, (Lioness in water): 🤍 Credit 3 - Nat Geo Wild, (Buffalo charging lion): 🤍 Credit 4 - NASA - The Okavangoa Delta from space: 🤍 Credit 5 & 6 – [Nat Geo Wild] The Okavango Delta - Lions King Of River (Lion wading through marshland & Lions territorial fight): 🤍 ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ #okavangolions #lionsoftheokavango #okavangodeltalions #joerogan

Meet Rock and Roar, the living cousins of the extinct Barbary lion

What were lions doing at the Tower of London? In recent years, excavation of the moat surrounding the Tower of London revealed two skulls. The remains of torture victims perhaps? Out of favor noblemen who lost their heads? No. These are the skulls of two Barbary lions once indigenous to West Africa but now extinct. Carbon dating places them in about the 14th Century AD. How did these lions end up at the Tower of London? The secret will be revealed in Museum Secrets: Inside The Natural History Museum. Living Symbol of Power Until they were hunted to extinction, Barbary lions were highly prized for their unique features: a physique and temperament that set them apart from other more familiar African lions. Ancient Romans employed Barbary lions to fight gladiators in the Colosseum. Centuries later, kings and queens of England bred them as a living symbol of power. They were royal pets, kept in cages at the Tower of London, along with many other exotic animals. Twitter: 🤍 Extinct But Not Forgotten We can't show you real live Barbary lions because they're extinct. So we invite you to meet their distant cousins: a pair of lions named Rock and Roar, currently living in a zoo in England. Curator Richard Sabin explains how these lions may help us understand the evolutionary journey of the Barbary lion in our Web Exclusive Video: Rock and Roar. Linkedin: 🤍 Facebook: 🤍

Amazing Footage of a Male Lion Taking Down a Buffalo with Consumate Ease Befofe your Very Eyes!

A common myth you often hear is that only females in a lion pride do the hunting. The theory being that this is because male lions leave the pride at around the age of two or three and therefore have insufficient time to learn adequate hunting skills from their fellows. Nonsense! While it is true the females do the lions share of the hunting, this is not due to a lack of skill on the part of the male but rather a simple gender specific difference in priorities. The males are too busy patrolling territorial boundaries to hunt in front of our eager cameras! They are busy keeping other males away from the females and their children in order to prevent the famous infanticide, in which male lions will kill cubs below the age of six months. They are busy fighting off the encroachment of hyenas who will happily kill lions and their cubs at every opportunity due to intense inter specific competition, where two species are competing for the same finite resource: food! But as this video shows, male lions are certainly well equipped for battle and powerful hunters in their own right. The kings of the jungle! Able to take down a buffalo weighing around eight to nine hundred kilograms in a single blow with one swipe of a mighty paw before suffocating the buffalo with powerful jaws tightly clenched on the throat. Thankfully a quick and relatively painless death! Lions are more than capable hunters, often brought in to take down the bigger prey including giraffe and even elephant. They are the ultimate bad ass of the Bush. This myth that male lions cannot and will not hunt needs to be dispelled! 🤍WooGlobe Verified (Original) *For licensing / permission to use: Contact - licensing(at)WooGlobe(dot)com #bigcats #lions #lionhunting #buffalo #animals #holiday #travel #adventure #safari #king

These 6 Lions Killed 40% of ALL Lions in Africa!!

These 6 Lions Killed 40% of ALL Lions in Africa!! Lions have always been famously associated with ferocity, violence and sheer raw power. They are a symbol of the brutality that is inherent to life in the wild. However, while all these things are expected of them already, in 2006, a coalition of six lions took the words like violence, brutality and dominance, and raised the bar for all future generations of lions. These six lions committed such acts of savagery and put on such a display of power, that it exceeded the already high expectations of all who make a living from observing wildlife. Not even the most educated experts on lions could have ever predicted that a coalition of just 6 lions would one day control a territory spanning 170,000 acres! These monstrous predators tend to protect their pride, but on occasion they will do the hunting. When that happens, it is sure to get messy! How does a male lion kill? Can male lions hunt alone? Stick around for these answers and more as today we are looking at brutal moments when male lions attacked their prey! Lions are beastly predators that are known for their skillful and violent hunts. Male lions are especially territorial and much larger than female lions. A female lion will weigh up to 180 kilograms, or about 400 pounds, while a male lion can weigh up to 260 kilograms, or about 570 pounds! Male lions are also noticeably longer. While a female lion is an excellent hunter, the male lion’s size can help them to take down larger prey. In this clip, two lions are taking down a buffalo. One of the lions is biting it on the throat. This is a technique used by lions to suffocate and kill their prey. It may sometimes take a bit of elbow grease for the lions to get it to work, but as a team, these two lions are eventually able to defeat this struggling buffalo! They use their teeth along with their paws to come at the buffalo from two sides, giving it no chance to survive. At one point, one of the male lions gets on the ground and bites the buffalo’s snout. This may be due to the inefficiency of suffocating the buffalo by biting at its throat. By targeting its nose and mouth, the buffalo will surely stop breathing! Now that is brutal! A male lion’s mane has a story to tell. Their manes can reach a length of 16 centimeters, or about half a foot. The longer the mane, the older the lion is. These manes also get darker as the male lion ages. As the years go by, these manes become a display of dominance amongst the lion prides. A mane may look merely decorative, but they can serve as protection as well. Aside from helping a male lion attract a mate, their manes can help protect their necks and head from injuries during their vicious fights. To see a dominant male lion in action, take a look at this next clip. A lion spots a group of African wild dog pups. He watches from a distance for a while. Then, he decides that it is the perfect time for an easy hunt, and that motivates him to launch towards the pups! He stirs up some dust as he picks one out randomly. The pups scatter and the lion is left with one victim in his grasp. You can see how he used his paws to grab the pup and trap it. After a while, two other lions come by two check out the snack. The three of these lions now have to share the meal! A lion has a big appetite, although that may be apparent with what they hunt. Since a male lion is larger, he will need more food in order to sustain nutrients. In a single meal, a lion can eat up to 40 kilograms, or about 88 pounds, of meat! Now imagine how big of a buffet that would be! Eating a quarter of their own body weight means they need to be able to hunt larger animals, especially if it is a shared meal amongst a pride. For example, a female buffalo can weigh up to 454 kilograms, or about 1,000 pounds. That is plenty of meat to go around! Lions tend to finish their entire meal. They don’t hide unfinished food like some other animals do. If a meal is unfinished, a lion may lie next to it until they can finish it. In this clip, a male lion has his sights set on a mother buffalo. The lion approaches her at a casual speed, then once close, he aims for her face. The buffalo is tough and protective of her calf, so she fights back with her horns. The lion avoids these strikes and latches his teeth onto her neck. She is able to swing the lion around, but because his teeth are sunk into her and he is holding her with his strong paws, the lion is not shaken off. After a bit of a struggle on both ends, the lion is able to bring this buffalo down. The buffalo slowly stops moving, showing how the lion’s method of suffocation can be a slow and painful process. Now this is a meal that will last a while!... 🔥 For the best top 10 wildlife and wild animals content around, check out some of our other content relating to predators and prey on our channel pet spot 🤍 #wildanimals #animals #petspot

BOOK YOUR TRIP TO KRUGER: 🤍 These safari-goers found themselves in a position that many dream of while on safari – their car attracted the attention of two curious male lions who spent some time rubbing themselves against their car. Send in your wildlife video here, and earn money: 🤍 This exciting sighting was captured by 24-year-old, Candidate Attorney, Simone van Schalkwyk, while on a game drive near Lower Sabie, Kruger National Park. Simone tells the story: “We had gone out on a very early morning game drive, as the only thing I wanted from our trip was to see big male lions. After passing some buffalo dung we carried on driving and then we saw these beautiful male lions walking in the road – finally, we had found them!” “The lions were lying in the grass right next to the road and slowly got up - showing a lot of interest in our car, they came right up to my window looking right at me and even rubbed themselves against the bonnet. The emotions were unreal and slightly mixed, I was filled with excitement as well as a bit of fear seeing these male lions up close.” “I love the bush and visit quite often but I have never experienced anything like this before. I am so lucky and blessed to have witnessed a lion look me straight in the eyes!” “We spent quite some time with the lions and after a while, the lions lost interest and we carried on.” To license the footage: Contact🤍 Get some of our exclusive specials at the Kruger National Park (Free nights): 🤍 Snapchat: LatestSightings Twitter & Instagram: 🤍LatestKruger For live wildlife sightings in the Kruger National Park: 🤍 And like our Facebook page for great sightings and photos: 🤍 Subscribe to us on YouTube: 🤍

8 Most Unique Lions On Earth

From lions with practically mythological features to some you may have never heard of, here are 8 of the most unique lions in the world. Subscribe to Talltanic: 🤍 Watch Our MOST Popular Videos: 🤍 🤍 8. Liger It might sound like something out of a fantasy movie but ligers are real. A cross between a male lion and a female tiger, the liger is the result of man-made breeding but because lions are from Africa and tigers are from Asia, the liger is not something usually found in nature. 7. Asiatic Lions Lions are one of the most majestic animals in the world, but that doesn’t mean they are not at risk. The Asiatic lion is one such species whose numbers are dwindling. With only several hundred of the lions still surviving, the Asiatic lion, which is smaller than other lions, are only found in a very small area of the world. 6. Barbary Lion Barbary, or Atlas lions, were once known to roar through the deserts of northern Africa, often found from Morocco to Egypt. They were the largest of the lion subspecies, admired for their dark manes and known to have been once kept by royal families of Morocco and other northern Africa nations. You might know these lions best as ones that battled gladiators in ancient Roman Coliseum, as well as being displayed at many European zoos. 6. Transvaal Lion One of the more unique species of lions are the Transvaal lion. Named for the Transvaal region of Africa where they were found, this lion looks different than others on first sight. 4. Ethiopian Lion In a remote national park in Ethiopia, a species of lion believed to be extinct was rediscovered in 2016. Wildlife conservationists from Oxford University in England had heard stories from park staff and locals about lions living in the Alatash National Park in North West Ethiopia, near Sudan. 3. Addis Ababa Lion While you might think all lion species are related in some way, researchers recently discovered the Addis Ababa lion in Ethiopia is actually genetically different than other lion populations. Due to this finding, their hope is for stricter conservation actions to preserve the vulnerable species. 2. White Lion In March of 2018, wildlife guides at a game reserve in South Africa came upon a sight they never expected - a rare white lion cub in the wild. While watching a male lion sleeping near the Timbavati river, a field guide at the reserve named Lyle McCabe heard the call of a young cub coming from a nearby thicket. 1. Cape Lion The second largest and heaviest of lion subspecies, the Cape Lion weighed over 600 pounds and was 1.5 times larger than the average African lion. Distinguished by its thick black mane and gold fringe around its face, the big cat was known to grow up to 11 feet long and weight up to 500 pounds. #lions #rarest #unique #animals #creatures #whitelion #bigcats #rarestlions #uniquelions #rareanimals #talltanic #top10

Four male lions battle for territory.

This video is exclusively managed by Compass Media. To license please contact info🤍 Incredible sighting of the two Addo males moving south to challenge Kwandwe and Monomoholo for their territory I followed the two Addo males for nearly an hour and a half as they were making their way south, they were calling constantly until the two males from the south heard them and started calling back, you could see the two Addo males starting to move a little bit faster. Once they got within striking distance you could see they were a little bit hesitant, however it was too late as Kwandwe and Monomoholo locked eyes on them, the chase was now on! They managed to pin the one Addo male to the ground with his brother coming back shortly after to try and help, he quickly realized he can't help and that's when he moved about 100m away. Sadly it ended with one of the Addo males losing his life in a attempt to expand their territory and finding more females.
