Always wanted to see what the difference is between Dungeness Crab and Rock Crab. We caught a few nice male Dungenesss crabs, some Brown, Yellow and Red Rock Crabs also. To prepare the food, we steamed the crab together and first tried the meat without any butter. The only flavor added was some saltwater, and then we finished off the crab with a bit of butter. I was pleasantly surprised by the results! Why Stone Crab Claws Are So Expensive | So Expensive

Stone crab claws are one of the priciest seafoods you can buy. Depending on their size, claws can cost as much as $70 per pound. Unlike most other crustaceans, it's illegal to harvest the body of a stone crab, so fishermen must only collect the claws before returning the rest of the crab to the ocean. So what makes these claws so coveted? And why are they so expensive? Note: The courtesy that appears in this video should be "Black Sky Entertainment" instead of "Blue Sky Entertainment." This New Zealand YouTuber recently uncovered a massive 12-million-year-old crab fossil sealed in rock. Mamlambo Fossils filmed a timelapse as he intricately removed the rock enclosing the fossil. "The species is a Tumidocarcinus giganteus from the mid-Miocene, around 12-million-years-ago," he told Newsflare. "The prep took 208 hours and the processing of the 1200GB of 4K footage took another 20 hours and I still had to edit the video itself. All in, I think I have spent 250 hours on this project!" he added. "The final weight of the crab is 7.3kg, more than 16kg of rock was removed chip by tiny chip," he concluded. Subscribe to EliasV Fishing 🤍 And check out our collab! Crabbing for these delicious crabs in the last few years has become a Spring ritual. The large Rock Crabs seemed to come close to shore the first week of April. Trying a week earlier than i usually do still produced some crabs and witnessed others having success.. Chicken does not work nearly as well as fresh fish, preferably oily fish. Herring, Bunker, Mackerel, and Shads would have yielded a much higher amount. I guess types of traps are personal preference. Deeper the waters, the more success you had this day but its usually the case. These Atlantic crabs are very sweet in flavor. I like to sprinkle some Old Bay but steamed plain is great as well and you can really taste the sweetness. Taste like King Crab / Snow Crabs. I hope to grab some more before they're gone at the end of April. ... to my Toggin' friends, YES IM EATING WHITE LEGGERS! Lol!

Rock Crabs’ TRUE Identity Discovered (And Why They Helped Jack Sparrow Escape)

00:10:07
20.09.2021

If you’re a fan of the Pirates Of The Caribbean series, then you are probably familiar with the weird, but kinda cute rock crabs that help Jack Sparrow escape from Davy Jones Locker. When Jack first stumbled upon one of them, they seemed to be just flat, pale rocks, but, for some reason, no matter how many times Jack threw it, it just kept popping up right next to him. Even after his comical attempt to shoo it away. But this begs a couple questions. What are these rock crabs, and why would the crabs want to help Jack escape from the locker? A lot of people originally believed that they weren’t just crabs, but in fact, an extension of Calypso. Either Calypso had powers and part of her soul within the locker, or she was the one communicating and guiding them, as they helped Jack escape. This would be an easy explanation, especially since we see Calypso communicating with one later on after Jack escapes. And it also explains how she turned into a bunch of them when her soul was released from her body. However, as it would turn out, this is actually not the case. It is true that the rock crabs are related to Calypso in a way, but not in the way that was previously theorized. In fact, these crabs in Davy Jones’ Locker were acting completely independent of Calypso the entire time they were helping Jack escape, and that’s because they were not an extension of Calypso, but rather independent souls trapped there as well. And that’s exactly what we are going to discuss in todays video. Make sure to stay till the end for the entire relationship between the rock crabs and Calypso! Fossil crab - how did it get in the rock??

One of the questions I get asked numerous times a day, is how did the fossil crab get inside the rock? The other thing that always puzzled me is the fact that the crabs aren't scavenged or eaten by other creatures, including other crabs. I used Blender to create the animation of the crab being covered in the concretion which I based on this paper: Yoshida, H., Ujihara, A., Minami, M. et al. Early post-mortem formation of carbonate concretions around tusk-shells over week-month timescales. The rock crab (Cancer irroratus) was first found in Icelandic waters in 2006. The scuba diver Pálmi Dungal found the first speciment in Hvalfjörður SW-Iceland. Since then the species has been found on several locations along the SW and W coast of Iceland. Before the colonization the species was only known to occur on the east coast of North America, from Labrador to South Carolina. The study of the rock crab in Icelandic waters was initiated in 2007 and has since then been lead by Jörundur Svavarsson, professor in marine biology at the University of Iceland.

Better yet, just get a license so you can fish at the beach too ;) Crabbing!
